pregnancy massage

Pregnancy massage is a wonderful therapy which helps to ease pregnancy related problems, with many benefits including easing backaches. This therapy melts away tension in the lower and middle back caused by a change in posture and extra weight from the baby. It also helps to open up the shoulders and release tightness in the neck, relieves pain in the pelvis, reduces swelling in the hands and ankles and improves skin tone, therefore aiding a reduction in stretchmarks.

For this treatment, the mum to be can lie on her stomach comfortably. It includes deep tissue and gentle holistic massage on the upper and middle back, neck and shoulders, legs, arms, head and face. Massage on the stomach is with feather-like strokes and holding techniques, to relax the baby. The treatment also also involves gentle stretching and body rocking. It is a full body massage tailored to the needs of a mum to be.

There is also an option of Massage with Partner which lets him join in with the treatment for her. The therapist shows him some basic massage strokes to ease muscle tension and help her to relax during pregnancy, some Indian Head Massage techniques and lower back release. All of which can be used before, during and after labour. It is a great time for mum, dad and baby to connect.

After a Pregnancy Massage and Massage with Partner the therapist will suggest stretching and breathing techniques to aid both mother and baby, with a handout given with these movements on it.

Each treatment greatly encourages the mother to be into a state of relaxation where anxiety and fatigue diappear. All expectant mothers should always inform the therapist of any conditions that she is experiencing during her pregnancy so that the treatment can be as beneficial as possible, for both mother and baby.

Post Natal Massage is also available and is excellent for recovery after the birth, releasing fluid from the epidural and toning muscles, especially in the stomach. It is a well deserved treat after a job well done! You are very welcome to bring your newborn along.

Please obtain written consent from your GP before your first treatment.
